## Why It Matters

A silent candidate blocks a slot in your pipeline, but silence alone does not tell you whether they have moved on or cannot complete the next step. Candidate stall nudges ask for an answer without making that decision for them.

## What Counts as Quiet

Kit starts watching after you invite a candidate into a stage that needs something from them. The stage is quiet while their next requested step remains incomplete.

Starting a timed assignment counts as activity. Kit then relies on the assignment's own deadline warning, sent 24 hours before it is due. Stall nudges never outlive the final submission cutoff; with the default 24-hour grace period, none are sent after an assignment starts.

Kit does not email candidates whose application has been rejected, withdrawn or anonymized. It also skips candidates on closed or deleted job postings.

## How Long Kit Waits

Kit sends the first reminder after **3 days** and a second after **7 days**. It then stops emailing. If the requested step remains incomplete by **day 14**, Kit marks the candidate as unresponsive. A timed assignment that is still accepting work starts this clock from its current deadline, but tracking ends at the final cutoff or automatic submission even when day 3, 7 or 14 has not been reached. A candidate receives no more than two stall reminders for the stage.

## What the Candidate Gets

The email reflects what is holding up the stage:

- If the candidate needs to connect GitHub before starting a code assignment, the email explains that step and links them to it.
- If they can start but have not submitted or booked anything, the email links them back to the stage.

Every reminder also gives the candidate a direct way to withdraw if they have moved on.

## What Happens After Two Reminders

On **day 14**, if the stage remains quiet, Kit adds a **No reply** badge to the application on your lists and pipeline board. Kit never withdraws an application on the candidate's behalf; your team keeps control of what happens next.

## How to Turn It Off

Admins can open [Hiring Settings](/hiring/settings) and turn off **Remind candidates who go quiet** under **Anti-stall reminders**. This setting is separate from reminders sent to your team.
