Working with Candidates
Resume Extraction & Search
How Kit automatically extracts and indexes resume data for smarter candidate search
Why It Matters
Resumes contain rich information — skills, experience, education, certifications — but without extraction, search is limited to name and email. Resume extraction makes the full content of every resume searchable, so you can find candidates by what they’ve actually done.
How It Works
When a resume is uploaded through an application form or a verified talent pool entry, Kit automatically extracts structured data using AI. The extraction runs in the background — no manual steps required.
- Candidate uploads a resume (PDF, DOCX, or DOC)
- Kit extracts structured fields from the document using AI
- Extracted data becomes searchable across your account
What Gets Extracted
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Name | First and last name |
| Contact info | Email address, phone number, LinkedIn URL |
| Location | City and country |
| Skills | List of technical and professional skills |
| Education | Schools, degrees, and graduation dates |
| Work history | Companies, titles, dates, and descriptions |
| Experience summary | Brief overview of the candidate’s background |
Searching by Resume Content
Candidate search matches against extracted resume content — not just name and email. You can search by:
- Skills — “React”, “Python”, “project management”
- Company names — “Google”, “Stripe”
- Technologies — “PostgreSQL”, “Kubernetes”
- Job titles — “senior engineer”, “product manager”
- Education — “MIT”, “computer science”
This applies to both the Candidates list and Talent Pool search.
Where You’ll See It
- Candidate profile — Extracted data appears on the candidate detail page
- Application timeline — Extraction results appear below the uploaded resume in the application form section
- Talent pool entries — Verified entries with resumes show extracted data on their detail page
Supported File Formats
| Format | Support |
|---|---|
| Full support — text and layout preserved | |
| DOCX | Supported — text extracted, formatting simplified |
| DOC | Basic support — older format, text-only extraction |
Quick Checklist

- Review extracted data on candidate profiles before interviews
- Upload resumes in PDF format for the best extraction results
- Check the application timeline to see extraction results alongside the original resume
- Use specific search terms (e.g. “Kubernetes” rather than “infrastructure”) for more precise results
